Breathtaking sea views in a location where arches connect the interior to the exterior
Breathtaking sea views in a location where arches connect the interior to the exterior... this is what a building on the south coast of Crete provides, which after renovation has kept its original layout but has been given a new design. The project for the summer residence was created by Entopos Architects and called "Echo of the Sea".
The building near the Venetian fortress of Frangokastello draws inspiration from its landscape. The grounds of the summer residence are made up of three buildings, with the main building in the middle of the site, a guesthouse on the west side and a half-open communal area to the east. The architects have brilliantly supported the original floor plan of the building through the use of curves in the exterior and interior. These are the integral feature of the entire project.
The rounded shapes are also reflected in the detailed design of the rooms. "M&T's minimalist LUSY handle with its circular cross-section fits perfectly into the entire style. It is used on all opening windows and interior doors for this reason. By being made of brass, it fits in with the architectural style of the building", mentions George N. Koutsoudakis, owner of Block 95, which is an authorized dealer of M&T hardware in Greece. For this project, the company manufactured the entrance door and supplied all the door and window hardware. "The solid brass from which the LUSY handles are made was left in its natural form on the surface of the fittings due to the extreme coastal climate conditions. It is practically the most durable surface possible for handles, which is why we guarantee a lifetime warranty," informs Roman Ulich, chief designer of the Czech family-owned M&T manufactory, and adds to the material's properties.
The architects from Entopos Architects succeeded in realizing the plan for the renovation, where the focus was on preserving the original character and drawing inspiration from the local landscape. At the same time, the building was created, which on the one hand preserves privacy and on the other hand provides freely connected interior and exterior spaces.
