An unconventional C-shaped house
Fránek Architects
A quiet stop to embrace art and craft amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, where modernity blends with wild natural elements. The house near Brno is surrounded by a large garden, dominated by a natural bathing habitat in the company of wild vegetation. "The house is located on a south-facing plot and responds naturally to this morphology. It has a C-shaped plan to protect privacy and increase the level of intimacy," says Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek of Fránek Architects, the author of the design of the house, in which he and his colleagues had to skillfully deal with the building authority's requirement for a mandatory gable roof. Its involvement in the highest roof is so unobtrusive that it is barely noticeable, and these details have made it possible to maintain the undisturbed visual appearance of a modern design house.
The first time you open the front door, you get the feeling that the garden was just a prelude. The symphony of experiences is not only offered by the comfortably designed kitchen, but also by the generously proportioned living area and the adjoining wellness area. Everything is complemented by design elements and unique works of art. The living area is loosely connected to the terrace by large window areas from Janošík windows - doors, which further enhances the impression that you spend all your time at home outdoors in nature.
In every inch of the house you can literally feel the personality of its investor, which was the main vision that the architects had to follow. "The owner is a great lover of art, and he placed particular emphasis on the artistic impression of the entire "museum come to life". The great thing was that we were given a completely free hand in the selection process, and this allowed us to harmonise everything with an eye for detail," comments architect Fránek. The biggest wow effect in the interior is provided by the ash veneer from one giant trunk, which is interwoven throughout the house. Its massive and veneered footprint runs through the large-scale wall coverings, doors and designer furniture. As Ing. arch. Zdeněk Fránek "In fact, the whole building was already designed to actively use art, which is why a lot of space is devoted to it. It's kind of an experience house."
The overall compact impression is not disturbed by the MAXIMAL design handles from the Czech manufactory M&T. "I use MAXIMAL and MINIMAL fittings from the Czech family company M&T almost everywhere. When something suits me, I repeat it. I like the fact that it is a comprehensive collection of fittings that includes products not only for doors but also for windows," says architect Fránek. In addition to door and window handles, MAXIMAL hardware also includes hardware for HS portals, bottom rosettes with locks, and even door stops. The individual elements are thus visually coordinated and give the interior a coherent expression. In addition, MAXIMAL handles can carry a variety of materials in their front surface, which allows either harmonisation with the decor of door and window elements, for example, or, on the contrary, an impressive contrast that makes the handles stand out visually.
