The best family house in the Czech Republic in 2021
The Lazy House – named after the residential district it finds itself in – was built halfway between a forest and a valley in Zlín, Czech Republic, taking advantage of its idyllic location.
A modern build of glass and steel perched on a hillside, the residence could very well be a Mediterranean villa or a swanky Los Angeles residence… exactly the look and feel that Prague-based architecture studio petrjanda/brainwork was going for. “The idea of the house goes beyond its physical form and is built from the inside out on, in spatial connection with the environment from which it grows and overlooks,” says Petr Janda. “The concept is based on the relationship between the house and the city, the house and the garden, and the garden and the city.”
The main living space is located on the upper floor: living, kitchen and dining areas are laid out as an open plan, with private rooms at the corners of the floor space, offering either garden or city views. Iridescent lighting, diffused by two-colour filters, bathes the interiors in a pearlescent glow. Walls, floors and cabinetry featuring wood of different patterns and textures are paired with stylish furniture pieces to mimic the contemporary aesthetic of its exterior.
Around this central part, the other living rooms are arranged to benefit either from the view of the city or from the contact with the garden. It is worth noting that the practical location of the entrance staircase allows access to the children's rooms without passing through the lounge area and is thus prepared for the nightly return of older children. The all-glass rooftop studio is in turn accessible from the staircase, which is connected to the entrance staircase.
"The arrangement of the rooms in the house allows for varying the use of the building as well as achieving a multi-generational layout by having two separable reception areas on the entrance floor with separate access," says Janda.
Mini-V fittings in glossy chrome were used throughout the project. The fitting is designed with the MINI rosette, made of massive brass, with a choice of 5 colours & surfaces, with a wide range of complementary products in the same design and colours, with a guarantee of 3-15 years, depending on the design, with good mechanics M 2011 used for interior and exterior doors.
