«My challenge is simple: invent and CREATE objects without time limit subjects that never get old»

Architecture and design has a tradition in your family, or was it a coincidence?

Who knows maybe in my previous life. I certainly had to be a warrior, artist or magician. I think that one of these three characters must be every designer.

You are from Italy, Piemont - the region is known for continuous technological progress, did it leave a mark on you at your work?

Piedmont is a region with a great tradition to design for car industry and large design studios as Giacosa, Bertone, Pininfarina, Zagato, Giugiardo.

You had a very interesting diploma thesis...

....My college career is indeed long. After my diploma thesis in architecture, I received the Ph.D for the design of architecture and design, then I taught few years on the faculty as a professor of architecture and industrial design at the Polytechnic School in Torino. I always taught designing in order to maintain the basics of the roots of the practice and teaching of Carlo Mollino - founder of the Torins school.

artist or magician »

What you mainly tried to tell students?
I believe that design can be easy to learn, and then you need to catch up an idea and after its discovering it must be with some care and devotion follow and try to transfer this idea into something particular.

What about any realization in design and architecture?

In the field of industrial design, I designed various items for the famous Italian brands and by some of them I am in the position of director of art. In the field of interior design and architecture I projected restaurants, hotels, museums and houses in Italy and abroad.

Which of these realizations is the best one for you?
Certainly the last. That one I am working on...

Your other specialization is interior design, where you closely work with doors manufacturer FerreroLegno.
From year 2007 till year 2014 I designed new door models for FerreroLegno. I was already there in the position of art director. Today I am at the same position in other important Italian company that manufacture interior doors and with the brand Stradivari Design we design new products for companies worldwide.

From the doors is very close to door handles ... what handle in the world is exceptional for you and what would you recommend for your doors?

Handles which I prefer are those that tell about history. Those of medieval castles, those of the king of France, or those of the old farmhouses, most of the doors of abandoned houses. These handles are able to become archetypes. I think that the current design must focus on creating new archetypes.

You designed the handle for M&T. Why did you decide to cooperate with M&T, while there are many manufacturers of handles in Italy?

M&T is a dynamic, young company prepared to experiment. I see this as a particularly interesting cooperation to connect Italian design with this company, which has a technological, central European concept. Strictness together with imagination, technology and design. The definitely victory.

What inspire you to design this handle?

Modernness, after the handle Minimal we needed to work out in detail of the shape, to find out a new stylistic number. In this case, ergonomics and stylistic research in the automotive industry is the primary links to this idea.

Do you have any unfulfilled goals in industrial design?

Yes of course. My challenge is simple, but I am not sure that I can achieve it: to invent and create objects without time limits subjects that never gets old..
